Black Archers Unit Crest

47 Sqn IAF or 'Black Archers' was raised in 1959 at AFS Halwara with the Dassault Ouragon. It flew the MiG-21FL during the 1971 war and is credited with the first F-104 kill by a MiG-21. It was also the first to convert to the MiG-29 Fulcrum and flies the upgraded MiG-29 today. The unit's motto is '

Karmani Vyaprutham Dhanuhu' translates into 'My bow is ready for the task'.
