The concept of General Staff came into being in Prussian Army after being defeated at the Battle of Jena at the hands of Napoleon. King Fredrick William III set up a committee for military reforms in an attempt to bring back the glory days of Fredrick the Great. The result was establishing of the Prussian General Staff, a small core of highly educated and well trained officers who would act as advisors to the Generals and work to efficiently implement the plans. Since then the General Staff has been every great leader's tool to formulate and implement an effective operational plan.
The Indian Army borrowed the system from the British Army, which is almost similar but not nearly the same. Indian Armed Forces train their future staff officers at the Defence Services Staff College located at Wellington. This prestigious college not only trains Indian officers but many officers from friendly countries. Graduates of this course take up staff appointments in fighting formations, enabling the generals to plan and execute their war plans.
This PVC patch / magnet is for all the staff course graduates.
